Hi Elle,

If you’re creating the qualification from AMT’s templates, you can actually simply cut and paste the content from the HTML form into a new qualification on your collaborator’s account. Unfortunately I don’t know of any way to copy all of the details from one account to another through the web form.

If you’re doing the qualification using the CLTs, it should just be a matter of replacing your Access Key and Secret Key with your colleagues’ in the mturk.properties file. Hope this helps!

I know you mention that it´s much easier to implement the CLT scripts when the requestor and AWS accounts are the same. But what about for collaborators with different accounts? I´m struggling to get my qualification uploaded onto my colleague´s requestor account. I can get it to be visible on my personal account, but not my collaborator´s account. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Thank you for the tutorial… I am wondering if you can show me how you can add assignment using the web interface?

The last sentence from the 2nd paragraph on the right side of p.19 in your paper (http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1691163) says you can add more assignments to your HIT. I don’t think I can find this feature. Maybe this is available only if some conditions are met? Thank you.

Thank you for the post – great help.

I was wondering if you know of any easy to follow guides about how to create custom qualifications? I followed all the steps you outlined here, but now don’t know how to actually create and upload a qualification. I would appreciate any advice you might have about this, and should probably mention that my programming knowledge is very limited.

Thanks!!

There are a couple of ways you could approach this.

The way I would recommend is to create an External HIT (using the CLTs; check out the External HIT in the “samples” folder), so that your webform appears in an iframe on the Mechanical Turk site. I would make 5000 HITs with 3-5 assignments per HIT. That way, each website has 3-5 “votes” with respect to the relevant category. This is also important because this kind of HIT is especially attractive to spammers, so you need to be careful in your evaluation of the HITs—look for workers who give responses that usually don’t agree with the majority and filter them out (and don’t pay them).

Another way to do it would be to create a HIT that directs the worker to your site. Once they’ve done all of the categorizations they want to do, they get a code to input on the HIT. You then match up the work done with the codes entered on the HITs, and pay bonuses accordingly (using the “Grant Bonuses” API call). This requires a bit more engineering on your site, can still run into the same spam issues, and you have to build trust with the workers to get them to do it.

If you choose this approach (or really, just generally), I recommend introducing yourself on Turker Nation (turkers.proboards.com) to let the workers know you’re not going to install malware on their computer or “forget” to pay them.

Thanks for the post. AMT’s support is pretty weak outside of the generic approach. I’ve got a complicated situation and I can’t figure it out. This article has me close, but I’m still confused on something.

I’ve got a database with over 5000 free course listings. These are just the descriptions and links to the publisher websites. I need to assign each course to 1-3 categories in a taxonomy. I’ve built a webform to do this and it is even ready to record the AMT assignment/HIT and worker IDs for each classification in order to give credit. But this is all on my site. I can’t figure out how to just create a HIT that would simply point the worker offsite and that’s it. Or is that not kosher? Does it have to talk back and forth with AMT with every transaction?

Plus, I have over 5000 of these course listings that need processing, so does that mean I need to create 5000 HITs? Or can I have one HIT that allows workers to do as many courses as they can and then I just pay them for the sum?

Thanks in advance for you input.
